I had the honor (and a lot of fun too) of photographing Nimish Patel for his campaign. On July 18, 2010 he is going to announce his intent to run for the School Board of Education for the Santa Monica and Malibu Unified School District. I took the main shot on the left, the others (on the right) are the copyright and property of Mr. Patel. I was hired by the folks over at VidaCoco to do their executive shots and cover a Posada Party, thrown by VidaCoco owner, Maria “Coco” Peate. It has been a pleasure to work with them. Their healthy oriented a green living website is amazing. Please check out VidaCoco for good healthy living tips. Kind of like Martha Stewart only Latin style. Here are some shots:

Have not heard of Firefly Events yet? Well you are so missing out! I found them while planning my sister’s bachelorette party and they are amazing! Not only do they have so many wonderful already pre-packaged choices for your and your guys or gals (depending on whether you are planning a bachelor or bachelorette party), but you can custom create your own party as well. Firefly handles everything for you so all you have to do is just show up! It makes everything so much easier and I highly recommend them. They are also listed up in my links section too.

Extraordinary Women: Dec. 2009

A bit behind in blogging this, but I had the pleasure of photographing Sharon Perry of the The Canyon Salon for the cover and editorial of Extraordinary Women Magazine. You can also see all the covers and editorials I have done thus far on my publication website, www.jennifercarrillo.com. I am still in the process of updating it, but there you will see color photos from the Tony and Marc Danza Book, Don’t Fill Up on the Antipasto, all the photos I have done for EW so far, Becca, the country music singer and the jewelry line, Autumnkind. Happy Birthday La Luz Del Dia!

I bet a lot of you did not know I was of Mexican descent, but I am! My mother’s family is from Mexico. In fact, my amazing grandfather had a wonderful supermarket and restaurant, La Luz Del Dia, on Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles. The supermarket has been closed down since his death, but his wonderful (and well known restaurant) is still going strong thanks to my uncles and my cousins. Tomorrow, September 17, 2009 is La Luz Del Dia’s 50th Anniversary! I spent a lot of my childhood here, playing in the back of the restaurant, running up and down Olvera Street, and having a super time. The food is authentic Mexican. I remember watching those ladies make the tortillas when I was little! They still make their own tortillas (the best tortillas!) and have real and delicious Mexican dishes. I love the rice, it is super and the carnitas are amazing! I just wanted to take this time to remember my grandfather, Jack Berber, and the amazing gift he gave to all of us; most importantly, the legacy he left behind. My grandfather was amazing, absolutely amazing and I miss him everyday, but, I know wherever he is, he is smiling big!

La Luz del Dia on Olvera Street Celebrates its 50th Anniversary

In these uneasy economic times, when food trucks materialize seemingly overnight and established restaurants can close their doors just as quickly, it’s comforting to celebrate a local favorite that’s been around for half a century. La Luz del Dia on Olvera Street turns 50 years old next week. And waitress Paula Garcia has been there for that entire time, having first started on the job in 1959. Next Thursday, September 17, you can toast them both, as the restaurant marks the occasion with live mariachis and half-price carnitas and tacos.

La Luz del Dia serves its Michoacan-style food, hand-made tortillas and carnitas, cactus salad and picadillo, in the Simpson Jones building, built in 1894. The restaurant was founded by Jack Berber and his cousin Francisco Cazares (their family still owns and operates the restaurant) at the suggestion of Christine Sterling, the socialite responsible for encouraging Los Angeles Times publisher Harry Chandler to help refurbish the then-deteriorating neighborhood. The restaurant has been in operation ever since.

Arlene Drake is an amazing and very successful therapist who works out of Encino at the Arlene Drake Therapy Center. She is a pioneer in the treatment of adult survivors of physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse. She has frequently been a guest on television and radio news programs as well as her words quoted in publications such as USA Today, People Magazine, Leers Magazine, and Newsweek. Working with her was wonderful experience! Here are some of my favorites from our executive headshot session:

I had the pleasure of working with Lisa Waldrep, Don Waldrep, and Chef Eric Kopelow, C.E.C. in the below photographs for their foundation, The Cure . Lisa Janks Waldrep, JD, CPC is a cataylst coach and the empowered life stylist founder for ”The One Who Knows.” Donald J. Waldrep, MD, FACS is a nationally renouned weight and wellness surgeon and the founder of The Cure Centers. Chef Eric Kopelow, C.E.C is the founder of The Cure Centers and Food Cures, and is also the director of culinary arts and nutrition. These three individuals come together to create an outstanding program for wellness, healing, and guidance. They are an amazing group and all of them so incredibly talented and accomplished.

I am SO behind on blogging, busy shooting and working on albums both for clients and the studio! Thought I would post a few quick headshots I have been taking for people for their online profiles on networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. (you can follow me on Twitter if you like , I try to update with all things work related!) These are coming out great and I am having a lot of fun with this! I have more sessions scheduled in the upcoming week, but here are some recent shots.
